Stay in Pagosa Springs and take the shuttle to the mountain daily. At $65 a day for adults, you can definitely get a lot of snow for your buck.
Purgatory Ski Resort opens this Saturday the 21st! These guys have tons of Ski and Stay specials and we can get you there in 1 hour from the Durango La Plata Airport DRO. Purgatory is a great mountain offering skiing for anyone and everyone while still maintaining an intimate resort feel. If you enjoy powdery fresh turns all day, San Juan Untracked is also now booking backcountry snowcat tours. This snowcat operation is the largest in the US and is consistently featured in mainstream and independent ski publications. Definitely book your trip in advance, as space is sometimes limited.
For those of you ready for even more adventure, Silverton Mountain, opens their unguided skiing December 19th. This mountain is not for the faint of heart and usually will not be on your first trip to ski Durango, but we will take you there.
